Apparent Drought

Kirch Flat

Our camping location, Pine Flat Lake, was somewhere between Yosemite and the Sequoia National Park. The temperature reached up to 115° along the curvy mountain back roads during the day so it was a warm night. The next day as we came out of the area I was able to see the lake that we drove by the night before and it was a little shocking. Look close and you will see the trees dried up in the empty lake. It keeps being apparent that the drought is VERY real.

Trail Walking

Walk to / from Mirrors Lake

So the trees already give shade and beauty but they also give a lot of life to the area. We got to see a baby black bear strolling through the trail. So I’ll let you walk along with us in this photo (sorry I couldn’t get the bear in the photos for you!).

PSPHOTO ; This is more than just a Post Script really…
On the ride out of the forest, we were able to see the setting sun colors behind the blue of the mountains. This is always a breath taking view but as a photographer, it is hard to find a helpful subject so it isn’t so vast feeling. Just as I thought I wouldn’t get to share this sunset with you, the trees along the road showcased fire damage. Very bittersweet moment as the fiery sunset colors silhouette the black crisp of burned trees.

Mirrors Lake

The Main Event

Mirrors Lake was voted as our main event since most of the falls were dry due to the California drought. Plus, it has the iconic view that you see in most ideas of Yosemite. The only thing is that you would never guess that we were at the lake because it was pretty much all dried up. It was still an amazing view of Half Dome.
